The Role of a Certified Inpatient Coder

As a Certified Inpatient Coder, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and comprehensive coding of inpatient medical records. Your attention to detail and expertise in medical coding will help us maintain compliance with coding regulations and optimize reimbursements.

Responsibilities of a Certified Inpatient Coder:

  • Owning the coding process for inpatient medical records, ensuring accuracy and adherence to coding guidelines.
  • Assigning appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes using current coding systems.
  • Reviewing and analyzing medical records to abstract relevant information for coding purposes.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
  • Ensuring compliance with all coding and documentation guidelines and regulations.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, and industry trends.

Requirements for the Position

To be considered for the Certified Inpatient Coder position, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Certification as an Inpatient Coder (CIC) from AAPC or AHIMA.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in inpatient coding.
  • Proficiency in using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
